| Birth: | Jul. 12, 1874, Poland | | Death: | Dec. 15, 1927 Paris, France | Artist, Poet. Born in what is now Poland, she moved to the United States and became an important figure in the Greenwich Village art scene, helping to found the American branch of the Dada movement. She was well known for her outrageous outfits (such as soup-can bras) and short, fancifully colored hair. She died in Paris at age 53 after leaving her gas oven door open; it is was never determined whether her death was accidental or a suicide. (bio by: Samantha)
